For many women, life doesn’t come with neat boundaries. The workday doesn’t end when the laptop shuts, and rest doesn’t always arrive when the house finally goes quiet. A working woman often begins her day before sunrise packing lunches, checking school bags, school routines, managing a home then steps seamlessly into professional responsibilities, deadlines, meetings, and expectations. Somewhere in between, she’s also a mother, a partner, a daughter, a caregiver, and the emotional anchor of the family.
And then there’s herself often last on the list.
Sharing my story, when everything felt like it was collapsing
I was onboarded onto a highly demanding project at a time when I was already unwell dealing with constant fatigue, low energy, and hormonal imbalances that made even simple things feel overwhelming. Despite this, I kept pushing myself, trying to balance work demands, personal responsibilities, and my health, which I continued to ignore. In the middle of all this, my father was hospitalized with a severe infection, adding emotional stress and household responsibilities to an already stretched routine. I found myself completely drained mentally, physically, and emotionally. By the end of the year, I simply couldn’t cope anymore; my body gave up, and I had to take a longer break not by choice, but because there was no other way forward.
What I often ignore
Over time, this constant balancing act takes a silent toll:
- Fatigue becomes “normal”
- Back pain and headaches become routine
- Hormonal issues go unchecked
- Anxiety quietly builds up
- Sleep becomes disturbed
Emotionally, it shows up as:
- Irritability
- Brain fog
- That constant feeling of being overwhelmed
The hardest part? I accept this as “just part of life.”
Most women don’t realize they are running on empty until their body or mind forces them to stop.
When I resumed work in March, things had to change. I knew I couldn’t go back to the same pattern. So, I started small:
- Taking intentional pauses during the day
- Not pushing through exhaustion every single time
- Giving myself moments of quiet
Reset, for me, wasn’t a vacation. It was learning to pause without guilt.
Repurpose: Doing Things Differently- I also made conscious changes to sustain better professionally:
- Letting go of perfection
- Focusing on what truly mattered
- Managing energy, not just time
- Accepting that I cannot do everything at once
I started asking:
- What needs my attention now?
- What can wait?
- What can I simplify?
It wasn’t easy but it was necessary.
Refocus: Coming Back to Myself – Slowly, I began to refocus:
- On my health
- On my limits
- On what truly matters
And I realized: It’s not about doing more It’s about doing things differently- With a clearer mind and slightly better balance:
- Work became manageable
- Stress felt less consuming
- I felt more present in both roles
A Healthier You Changes Everything- When a woman starts taking care of herself:
- She becomes more present, not just productive
- Her family experiences a calmer version of her
- Her work benefits from clarity, not burnout
For every woman juggling work, home, children, and countless unseen responsibilities remember this: taking a break isn’t stepping away from life. It’s the very thing that allows you to show up whole, healthy, and fully alive.
The bravest thing a woman can do is pause so she can rise again, stronger. I discovered this when unknowingly followed ‘PAUSE’ framework.
P.A.U.S.E Framework
- P – Prioritize Focus on what truly matters your health, key responsibilities, and what needs attention now, not everything at once.
- A – Accept your limits without guilt. You can’t do everything, and that’s okay.
- U – Unplug Step away from constant work and noise. Give your mind space to rest and reset.
- S – Simplify Let go of perfection. Keep things realistic, delegate where possible, and reduce unnecessary pressure.
- E – Energize Rebuild your energy through rest, small healthy habits, and moments that help you feel like yourself again. Reset: Learning to Pause
